An interesting thought occured to me this morning as I was getting ready for the day.
When it comes to saving money, most “experts” tell us that in order to save money we need to focus on cutting back the amount that we spend. On the surface, it seems like good advice. But, looking under the surface there may be a better way.
Have you ever tried cutting back on the amount of money that you spend? How does that make you feel? It makes me feel like I’m going to miss out on something. Has it worked long term for you?
It’s like cutting back on the amount of food that you consume. It generally isn’t too long before we go back to our old habits. It takes a lot of discipline, and the results don’t always show up right away, and frustration sets in.
Here’s my idea. Instead of focusing on what you don’t want to do.. spend less. Why not focus on what you do want to do… keep more of your money.
How does the idea of keeping more make you feel? It makes me feel excited and energized.
You see by focusing on keeping more, we are looking forward to what is to come. We are excited at the prospect of having a bank acount with a growing balance. By focusing on keeping more, we are expanding, rather than shrinking. Because we’ve been created to grow and expand, I believe when it comes to keeping more money, we are operating in the way that we’ve been created.
Something to think about.
