Has this ever happened to you?

You buy a new car, and as soon as you drive it off the car lot, all of a sudden you see them everywhere. Before you own that brand new, shining beauty, you didn’t see any of these cars. You dreamt about that car, you looked at brochures, took it out for a test drive, it seemed like you were the only one on the car lot looking at that car, you thought you were the only one that was going to have this car. Then you sign the papers, and take possession of the car, drive off the lot and now the same car is everywhere you look!

What happened?

What happened was your awareness changed. You see, those cars were there all along, you simply weren’t aware of them. Since you weren’t aware of them, you really didn’t pay attention. Since you weren’t aware of them, the attraction wasn’t there. Since you didn’t own one of these shining beauties, you weren’t aware of all of the other shining beauties out there.

What if this same ownership and awareness principle could be applied to other aspects of your life? What would that do for your career, or physical health, or financial situation? Here’s the thing, we become the person that we see ourselves being, and take ownership of. The people around us are a reflection of how we see ourselves.

Do you see yourself in a dead end career, or maybe your health isn’t what it should be, or you’ve got financial struggles? Eventually, you will take ownership of that situation, and all of a sudden you will see people all around you that are in a similar situation.  You will see this as your world, and your reality. You see no way out, because everywhere you look there are people just like you. When difficulties present themselves, you don’t have what it takes, and you don’t have the people around you that can help you to deal with them effectively. Then, before you know it, you end up in a downward spiral, and it just ends up getting worse, and worse.

Or,

Do you see yourself in a career that has no limits, you’re in peak physical health, and financially you have no worries. Eventually, you will take ownership of that dream, and when you do you’ll see people all around you that have the same things in life that you have. Then, before you know it, you are being lifted up, and you begin to really live the life that you have been created for. This is your reality, and everywhere you look you see people just like you. Then when challenges come along, you have also developed the mental toughness, and the abilities to effectively get through the tough times. More importantly, you have people around you that can help you get through the tough times. Then before you know it, you are in an upward spiral, and it just keeps getting better, and better.

I’ve seen life from both perspectives and it’s a lot better seeing life with no limits. It’s a lot easier to deal with challenges when they come up. It’s also a lot easier to dream, and dream big. It’s a lot easier to be passionate about what you do, and how you do it. It’s a lot easier having people in your life that help lift you up when you are going through a rough patch. It’s just easier…

If you had a choice, which would you choose?

I woke up this morning with the thought going through my head that the average Canadian family will not make it financially. So I went online, and this is what I found, according to Stats Canada. The average Canadian family makes about $66,000 a year before taxes, and spends about $71,000 a year. The big [...]

The Year of Expansion

January 5, 2010 Lead

Many people are talking about 2010 as a year of recovery. To recover from 2009, a year that for many people was devastating. But, I don’t see a lot written about expansion. Recovery implies that you only get back to where you were. Expansion, on the other hand, will drive us forward. Back to where [...]
