This afternoon, as I was walking through the mall just finishing up some Christmas shopping, (and yes I am done) I came across a shop that sells tea. At the entrance to the store was a young lady giving out samples of tea.
I asked her what it was that she was giving out. She could have said that it was a blend of teas, organically grown in some far off land, yada, yada, yada. I would have declined, and kept walking.
But, she says, “It tastes like Christmas”.
That got my attention, and I tried a sample. She then goes on the tell me about the tea.
To be honest, I can’t remember what she said after, “It tastes like Christmas”. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that I stopped long enough to have a sip. Yes, it did taste like Christmas. Had she asked me if I want to buy some, I probably would have.
That’s what marketing is all about. Get people to stop and listen to you, and tell them that it tastes like Christmas. Then ask them if they want to buy some.
So next time someone asks about your business, what will you tell them, and how will you ask them if they want to buy some?
